The idea was to capture the feeling of sitting at a fire under a dark sky in a landscape filled with rolling hills.
With the monotone sketch I captured some quick blocky forms and fleshed out the general landscape.
I wanted rich vibrant colors to pull you into the fire while the muted tones pushed back the landscape. the paint strokes are blocky, forming the general idea while remaining abstract. I want to push it more towards abstraction and allow the landscape to take up more of the image. I want to really meld the fire and the campground with the landscape. I want there to be rhythm: sets of three everywhere.
