Sometimes I will be in the process of painting and a particular color or shape will begin to define a shape or an idea. Following these mini spouts of inspiration often lead me to a messy page which the viewer has a hard time processing since they were not able to follow every movement of the piece. For me, art is a malleable time based phenomenon that changes depending on how one views it. With time, an artist can shape a piece into a different direction, add clarity to rough edges, and begin to layer in emotions and feelings to what are essentially just colors and lines.
I enjoyed playing around with animation that showed a piece developing; I feel it gives the viewer an appreciation of small parts of the painting that they would otherwise look over or not understand. Here is a quick playback of the above painting.
